Walk a Mile In Her Shoes

Join us and help make a difference!

About the event…Walk A Mile in Her Shoes® combines big hearts with big feet and brings the whole community together for a greatcause. The event premise is simple: men walk down Front Street, Belleville in women’s shoes, raising eyebrows and funds in support of The Royal LePage Shelter Foundation and Three Oaks: Quinte’s Shelter for Women and their children.

There is an old saying “You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.” This international men’s march asks men to literally walk one mile (or in our case one kilometre) in women’shigh heeled shoes. It’s not easy walking in these shoes, but it’s fun and gets the community aware of and talking about something that’s really difficult to talk about: violence (physical, verbal and sexual assault) against women.

It demonstrates that men are willing and able to be courageous partners with women in making the world a safer place. Someone you know or care about may have been or may become the victim of violence. Funds raised by participating in Walk A Mile in Her Shoes® will support local programs that will help the lives of women and girls forever.

Guardian Angel Gala 2011

Another successful Guardian Angel Gala has come and gone. This year was our best yet, with a gross amount of $160,000 raised for the Quinte Children’s Foundation. The contemporary Asian themed evening started with a champagne reception as guests appreciated the decor complete with paper lanterns, orchids and beautifully set tables orchestrated by Liz Hicks and her committee.  The delicious dinner with a slightly Asian flair was once again provided by the Banquet Centre.  Boyd Sullivan kept the attendees entertained throughout the live auction and the evening was rounded off with dancing to the music of the Maureen Brown Band.  Our Guardian Angel, Peter Knutson spoke passionately about his selfless contributions to the children of our community.  As out going chair I would like to thank everyone on all of the committees for helping to make the last 2 years so rewarding and successful. Thank you also to all sponsors, contributors of donations, committee members and volunteers. The names are too numerous to mention but I thank you all on behalf of the those children in our community who depend on the generosity of people like you. I wish the best of luck to the in coming chair Ingrid Moore and hope for her the same support and success that I experienced with the Foundation.               “The test of the morality of a society is what it does for its children” Dietrich Bonhetler

Quinte Children’s Foundation Gala 2010

BlogImageAngelSaturday, March 6, 2010  was the 9th Annual Guardian Angel Gala.  As the Chairperson for this fabulous and very successful event I am honoured to say we broke records this year.  The many volunteer committee members that worked dilegently, helped bring  it all come together.

This year the recipient of the Guardian Angel was the Belleville Rotary Club.  John Cairns, the President of the Club was honoured to accept the award.

With our number tallied together, the Gala grossed $140,100 and as the Chairperson for this fabulous event I am very proud of such a great accomplishment. Read the rest of this entry »
